The Ark was a moving sculpture comprising a wooden structure resembling the typical terraced housing of Pennine Lancashire, placed upon a narrow boat. Inside, newly commissioned films explored the industrial and cultural heritage of the region. The Ark travelled from Blackburn to Brierfield down the Leeds – Liverpool canal during May and June 2013, stopping at communities along the way in a celebration of the diversity and heritage of Pennine Lancashire.
The Ark received coverage from three main groups:
- Specialist arts and culture press
- Regional Lancashire media
- Boating press
The work was featured by Design Boom, BBC Northwest Tonight, BBC Radio Lancashire, ITV Granada Report, The Lancashire Telegraph as well as local newspapers such as the Burnley Citizen, Blackburn Citizen and Chorley Citizen.
